Harold Williams, 97, crossed an ocean to serve his country, and the Valatie native finally crossed a stage Thursday, even if virtually, to receive his high school diploma.

Williams served in seven military campaigns, including D-Day at Omaha Beach. However, the TEC-5 has a new title, Ichabod Crane graduate.

The diploma was awarded through the state's Operation Recognition program.

The well-deserved diploma was not enough for lawmakers. Williams now has his own day in the village of Valatie, and the Liberty Bell, which is the New York State Senate's highest honor.

He's also very humble. Hear why his family says he always tells them he's not a hero by watching the video of Sam Hesler's story.
