The former police chief in Chatham now admits he tried to steal money from the village and from the New York State Retirement System.

Peter Volkmann from Stuyvesant pleaded guilty to grand larceny and official misconduct.

He hid outside income through a private business and collected reimbursements from the village for expenses he never incurred.

As part of his guilty plea, Volkmann must pay back almost $93,000.
