ALBANY – Arbor Day may not be one of the holidays that closes schools or banks, but it’s an opportunity for people to make a difference in their communities.

Elementary students in the Albany City School District took part in the city’s Arbor Day event, by planting new trees.

Arbor Day began in the 1872 in what is now the state of Nebraska. It was a huge success, with about one million trees planted that day.
At Friday’s event in Albany, kids learned about the importance of trees.
