The Averill Park boys basketball team took to the court for practice Wednesday as high-risk sports began in Rensselaer County.
Rensselaer is the only county in the Capital Region so far to give the green light to sports like basketball and wrestling during the pandemic. Each player and coach is required to wear a mask on the court.
It has been a long wait for these players who last took the court for full-contact practices and games back in March. The Warriors are tentatively scheduled to play their first games on February 12 and 13.
Saratoga County is allowing practices, but no games until the 7-day rolling average for the positivity rate is below 4%. Other counties, like Albany, aren't allowing full-contact practices until the county is below that 4% average.
