Two long-time bitter Washington County football rivals have decided to team up.
The Whitehall School Board decided Monday night to merge its football team with long-time rival Granville.
The schools' rivalry is the stuff of legend, as thousands of people used to turn out for the games, often more people than lived in each of the communities.
However, these days, with enrollment dwindling, it makes sense to be on the same side of the field so kids can keep playing.
Granville is expected to approve the merger early next month.
The schools are also planning to team up for boys' soccer, which Whitehall doesn't offer.
