GUILDERLAND – There’s a renewed effort in the Guilderland Central School District with a committee focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Matthew Pinchinat is the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the district. His committee, which started last year, will have new faces next school year.

Past events include a student-led protest against hate, and more are in the works.

The student population is 14% AAPI, then it’s 5% Hispanic, 4% Black, and 4% multiracial. It’s 73% white.

Pinchinat’s group is tackling diversity, equity and inclusion from several fronts. One is suggesting to teachers how the curriculum could be more inclusive.
