Gov. Hochul once again reiterated Tuesday that masks will be a part of back to school for students.

The first day for some Capital Region kids is Sep. 1.

"I reflect on people who say, ‘Well, it's an infringement on the child and they can't do it.' I remember my 4-year-old, Katie, throwing a meltdown over having to put little sneakers on to go to preschool, okay? She eventually was able to handle something on her feet. Kids are resilient, they can handle a mask on their face," said Hochul, while speaking in Buffalo on Tuesday.

For teachers, Hochul says any teacher or school staff member who is not vaccinated will have to get tested for COVID every week.
That rule applies to all school staff.

Gov. Hochul is giving the authority to local health departments to figure out how to best tackle the delta variant.

Learn about the role she says she'll play in that, and how much money she says the state is dedicating to it, by watching the video of Subrina Dhammi's story.
