SCHENECTADY - For seniors at Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons in Schenectady, the first day back after February break started with a special guest speaker.

Omar Trimino is a graduate of the school - and his story is one of defying the odds.

Trimino grew up in Albany. One of six kids raised by a single mom, basketball was a passion and a reprieve.

It also led him to Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons, and then to a full-scholarship at Caldwell College.

Recently, he returned from a trip to Ghana, where he visited some slave castles where slaves were actually taken from.

Now he's a successful accountant. He's paying it forward by sharing his words of wisdom with the next generation.

Hear more about his message for students, by watching the video of Jacquie Slater's story.
