Vermont schools take next step; fall sports start Saturday

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Vermont's top education official says the state's schools are moving to the next stage of reopening.

Education Secretary Daniel French said Tuesday that beginning Saturday, schools will be able to use more facilities and mix students.

French says Saturday was chosen as the day to move to the next level of opening so interscholastic sports could begin. Since school began Sept. 8, there have been four cases of the virus in three Vermont schools.

Officials say no one was infected in schools; they all brought the virus from outside.
