TROY - It looks Troy families will finally have another place to cool off. The South Troy swimming pool was filled with water after a four-year wait.

Lifeguards were seen there Thursday getting ready for the big reopening.

Troy Mayor Patrick Madden issued a statement Thursday reminding people that "protecting public health remains his primary concern."

He says necessary safety plans required to operate the facility under health guidelines are being finalized.

That seems to be what's holding up the pool opening.

We know that social distancing is expected and will be enforced.

It has been four long summers since Troy residents have been able to take a dip. The city had to clear a few financial hurdles. They also invested millions to repair and upgrade the swimming pool and the changing rooms.

One of the big changes Troy residents will notice is that swimming fees have been waived.

A few families stopped by Thursday hoping to get in the pool. Those people said a lifeguard told them the pool would be open next week.

That is not official. NewsChannel 13 is awaiting word from the mayor's office.

Hear from the Troy City Council president about why it was so important to get this pool open by watching the video of Dan Levy's story.
