A new study out confirms the impact an area sleep away camp for sick children has on them long after they leave.
The Double H Ranch in Lake Luzerne is the place where tens of thousands of seriously ill children go to have serious fun.
Double H has been in the smiles business since 1993. The 320-acre lakefront property in Lake Luzerne is a camp for children dealing with life-threatening illnesses.
This is where they come just to be kids - swimming, horseback riding, ropes courses and campfires. They make memories that founders Charley Wood and Paul Newman hoped would last a lifetime.
The late theme park philanthropist and late actor partnered on the camp to bring free, safe experiences to kids.
At the time it was just the second in Newman's network of camps. Now with 30 camps and programs across the world, the SeriousFun Network is sharing the results of a new study with former campers that finds the impact of their stays in Luzerne and elsewhere, last a long time.
In fact, 80% of alumni campers said their experience at camp improved their self-confidence and their willingness to try new things.
Learn about how the research impacts the camps by watching the video of Mark Mulholland's story.
