Superintendents’ letter asks state leaders for mask changes in schools

Thirty-one area school districts are asking the state for guidance on getting back to normal.

The school administrators wrote a letter to the governor and the state health commissioner, asking for what they’re calling a "pathway to normalcy."

The superintendents say schools have done everything that’s been asked of them during the pandemic, and students and families are tired of not knowing what’s next.

They’re asking the state for what they call a roadmap on masking. Specifically, they want to know what point transmission rates or vaccination rates have to reach for masks to become optional.

They’re also continuing their push for guidance on extracurricular activities, saying there’s a disconnect of logic when it comes to vaccination requirements for school day events and after school events.

They say having the plan in place now will give families a pathway to normalcy.
