Anna Blanchfield has a passion for figuring out how things work. She excels in the maths and sciences, and the passion for learning has brought her all the way to the top of her class. This week, she will graduate as valedictorian for Schenectady High School Class of 2019.

"Schools always been important to me. I remember like in kindergarten we used to have like homework and things to do. It didn't really matter that much, but she would give them out on Mondays and I would always just get them done right away," said Anna.

A long way from kindergarten, this fall she will head off to Harvard. Both of her parents are Harvard graduates and her brother is a student there now, too.

Anna's biology teacher and mentor, Annie Chien, says the family's legacy at the school will be a tough one to follow.

"Her brother's friends said there's another one. So I said, there's another one?!?! So that's when I knew there was this Anna going around," said Chien.

Anna's drive to succeed goes beyond the books and pencils. She's played lacrosse and soccer for the school's teams. She's also done theater, plays piano, sings in the choir and recently went to France with the school's French club.

"I feel like it's easier to manage your time when you don't have that much time," said Anna.

There's no doubt Anna's future is bright. She's a young and brilliant mind with endless possibilities.

"I'm leaning towards STEM. So, maybe engineering or like biology. I haven't ruled out pre-med. I don't know, something science related," said Anna.

"She's going to be either one day your doctor, some researcher that's going to come up with some medicine that you'll be using. So, Anna Blanchfield's name is going to be somewhere," said Chien.
