Vermont Governor Phil Scott is ordering the closure of daycare programs in the state except for the ones serving health care workers, first responders and people deemed “essential” to fighting coronavirus.

“I realize even as we ask many to step back to help slow the spread of this virus, we’re asking others, including educators and child care providers, to step up and provide a critical service so those who are on the frontline can continue to care for the sick, protect the public and manage this evolving challenge," said Scott.

The order is in effect until April 6.

This is the latest in a series our measures taking place to increase social distancing as Vermont addresses the pandemic. Governor Scott declared a state of emergency on Friday and has since ordered all schools be closed. As is in New York, all bars and restaurants are also closed, except for takeout food services.
