School districts in the Capital Region are providing free meals to students during school closures. All schools in the state are closed through the end of March. Below is information for many school districts in the Capital Region - including the time and locations for meals.
ALBANY COUNTY
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area is providing “grab and go” breakfasts and lunches through mobile delivery sites for youth ages 18 and under. These meals will be available for pick up Monday through Friday at 11 locations in Albany and Troy (scroll down for Rensselaer County locations) from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Free grab-and-go breakfast and lunch for children will be available for pick up at Bethlehem Central High School. Those picking up meals should come to the Van Dyke Road entrance near the cafeteria.
MENANDS
Our school buses will deliver daily to your child’s bus stop. The time will be between 1 hour and 30 minutes and 2 hours after their regular morning pick up time. Meals can also be picked up at school between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. via the School Entrance.
The district will provide meals to any student in the North Colonie Central School District starting on Tuesday, March 17. “Grab and go” drive-thru style stations for breakfast and lunch will be set up at Blue Creek Elementary School, Forts Ferry Elementary School and Shaker High School. Breakfast can be picked up from 8-8:45 a.m. and lunch can be picked up from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Meals will be available that are free of the big 8 allergens. Families who cannot pick up meals can contact Food Services at LisaOstrowski@ncolonie.org and arrangements will be made for them to be delivered.
WATERVLIET SCHOOL DISTRICT
The meals will be available for pick up in the “grab and go” format from tables set up at the entrances to Watervliet Elementary School and the Watervliet Civic Center. When you arrive at the location, please look for the pick-up table. If driving, stay in your car and a staff member will bring the meals to you.
Victory Church is not only canvassing the streets but will now deliver lunches and breakfast bars for the next day. Just call 518-857-0726 to arrange delivery from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. every day beginning 3/17.
RENSSELAER COUNTY

RENSSELAER CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
The RCSD Food Service Department will be providing meals to students in the community beginning Wednesday, March 18th. We will be utilizing school bus services to deliver lunch as well as breakfast for the following day, based on your child/children’s scheduled morning bus stop. If you are interested in receiving meals for your child/children, please call Teri Hopper after 7 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17th at 518-396-3491. We will need to know the following information:
We will continue to provide breakfast and lunch for any student who needs it. Breakfast and lunch will be served at Troy High School from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon daily, starting Wednesday, March 18. Any student may come and pick up a “grab-and-go” bag during these times.
SARATOGA COUNTY
BALLSTON SPA CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
Free and Reduced Breakfasts and Lunches: (available for students enrolled in the program)
Parents or other family members may begin picking up those meals starting March 16, 2020, and each weekday thereafter at the following locations between 10:30 am and 1:00 pm:
SARATOGA SPRINGS SCHOOL DISTRICT
Breakfast and lunch will be available, free of charge, for any student under the age of 18 each day while SSCSD schools are closed starting on Wednesday, March 18. Meals may be picked up between 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the following locations:
Whole Harvest on Caroline Street in Saratoga Springs is offering a free salad to any student in need of a healthy meal. They are also accepting donations to help cover the cost of providing meals to kids while schools are closed.
Bookmakers on Broadway at the Holiday Inn is offering a free deli sandwich, applesauce, chips, a cookie and a bottle of water free of charge to any students K-12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Broadway Deli will be offering students a free sandwich and fruit cup with juice or water. Take out only, please call ahead 518-682-3416. They are also accepting monetary donations as well as water, juice and shelf stable snacks to help cover the cost of lunches.
Shenendehowa buses and food service staff will be delivering breakfast and lunch for those in need, free of charge, for students while schools are closed at the following locations:
SOUTH GLENS FALLS CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
Grab-and-go meals for two days will be available for families who qualify on Tuesday and Thursday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the South Glens Falls High School Cafeteria. Families can come to the rear of the building where a staff member will provide the meals. Families will not enter the building. Families can also opt for delivery if they are not able to pick up. Families who participate in this program were contacted today.
SCHENECTADY COUNTY
MOHONASEN CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
The District will provide meals to any in-District students in need starting on Tuesday, March 17th in a “grab and go” manner. Parents may sign up for grab and go meals. The food pick up location for students from all schools is the High School Auditorium Lobby from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays of each week, starting today. Each family will be able to pick up 4 meals per student on each day (breakfast and lunch for 2 days).
During designated hours, Monday, March 16, we will be distributing breakfast items for five days at the High School and Glencliff Elementary School and on Tuesday, March 17, we will be distributing lunch for four days at those schools. Details are below. Food will be provided for any student in need. You can go to either location and do not need to bring anything.
SCHENECTADY CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT

SCOTIA GLENVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT
Effective Tuesday, March 17, breakfast and lunch will be available to all students from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays. The pick-up location for these meals will be the High School, 1 Tartan Way (Sacandaga Road) in the side parking lot, which will be marked as a designated area for this purpose. If you are in need of food for your children but cannot come to the high school, we will have food delivered to you. Simply contact the District Office at 518-347-3600, ext. 71100.
