As many kids in the Capital Region get ready to head back to the classroom, there are a few things you can do every day to keep things sanitized and clean.

An infectious disease doctor tells CNET to focus on five things every day when your kids get home from school.

1. Phones: If they have a phone, wipe it down each day when they get home. This goes for parents too. In fact, we all should be wiping our phone each day, using a cleaning agent that won't damage or ruin your phone.

2. Backpacks: Have your kids leave their backpacks at the door or in a mudroom. Backpacks are dirty in general, but right now it's not a bad idea to keep the backpack away from the rest of the house.

3. School Supplies: Most kids are being asked to have their own set of school supplies during this pandemic. It is a good idea to wipe down whatever they bring home each day just to be extra cautious.

4. Clothes & Shoes: Change their clothes and kick off the shoes. Most little kids get dirty at school anyway. So you may already plan on doing this. But with the pandemic, it's best to have your kids change their clothes when they get home from school.

5. Lunchboxes: If your child is using a lunchbox, be sure to wash it every day.
