Backpack giveaway helping kids in need

TROY - Hundreds of local elementary school students will have new backpacks and school supplies thanks to Whitney Young Health and Fidelis Care.

The first of two events to help children in need was held in Troy on Wednesday.

The plan is to give away a total of 800 backpacks, as well as hundreds of pens, pencils, markers, notebooks and more.

The second giveaway will be this Friday, August 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Whitney Young Health Center on Lark Drive in Albany.
