Students are taking different paths – like gap years – which is affecting college enrollment numbers nationally.

Research shows a dramatic decline of nearly one million students in colleges nationwide. Almost double the number in 2019 before the start of the pandemic.

Community colleges are being hit the hardest, with a 13% drop off from pre-pandemic enrollment levels.

Researchers say that’s concerning, because it’s the most affordable college opportunity for many students and a way out of poverty.

They also point out the decline is more widespread than ever before.

Now it’s across the board at two-year and four-year colleges.
