Dome a big leap in Siena observatory construction

LOUDONVILLE - Construction on the new observatory at Siena College is now underway.

A crane will lower the silver observatory dome to the top of Roger Bacon Hall and place it on the cylindrical base.

It will feature a rotating dome with a retractable opening and house the largest telescope in the Capital Region.

The 16-foot observatory is expected to be completed next month, well in time for the start of fall semester classes.
