TROY - It is the hope of many people in Troy that the recent shootings there don't perpetuate the myth that all kids there are in trouble.

In fact, NewsChannel 13 found kids doing great, making good grades, attending college, and headed for a bright future - thanks in part to the vision of a Troy man.

Jerry Ford knows what it's like to get a second chance. He moved to Troy from South Florida, made some mistakes in life needed a do over - and got it.

He went to Hudson Valley Community College, met former President Barack Obama, and got a job working at the Commission on Economic Opportunity.

He knew he needed to pay it forward and started a now award winning non-profit group called Team Hero, helping transform the lives of other kids.

Team Hero now has a new location and is getting more and more kids. So, they could really use desks and supplies. Most importantly, they need a van to pick up the kids.

Hear from some of the kids the program has helped, by watching the video of Elaine Houston's story.
