Some changes were announced Monday at the New York State Education Department.

Dr. Betty Rosa was appointed Commissioner of Education and president of the University of The State of New York.

She is the first Latina woman to serve in that position and has been interim commissioner since last August.

The Education Department says it reviewed dozens of applications and conducted two rounds of interviews.

The department also announced Monday Andrew Brown is stepping down as vice chancellor of the state Board of Regents, a position he has held for the past five years.
