Albany County Executive Dan McCoy updated reporters Tuesday on the continued rise in coronavirus cases in the county.
He announced 16 new cases in the county with 17 people currently in the hospital. One patient is in the ICU.
The county has seen double-digit increases in cases over the last five days.
McCoy implored people to continue to practice good hygiene and stay away from gatherings. He also highlighted a rise in overdose deaths in the region.
McCoy says the county has more overdose deaths this year than all of last year. He links the increase to greater stress and isolation during the pandemic and the use of fentanyl in other drugs like heroin and cocaine.
