Consumers warned of fraud scheme involving genetic testing

July 02, 2019 05:46 PM

There's an alert from the Department of Health and Human Services about a fraud scheme involving genetic testing.

Scammers are offering Medicare beneficiaries cheek swabs for genetic testing. However, it's just a way for them to get their hands on information for identity theft.

Fraudsters are targeting people through calls, booths at public events and door-to-door visits. After getting people to agree, they mail the kit.

If a genetic testing kit is mailed to you - don't accept it unless it was ordered by your doctor.

Be suspicious of anyone who offers free genetic testing and then requests your Medicare number.
