Coxsackie virus cancels Schalmont homecoming game

The Schalmont School District is dealing with Coxsackie virus. The district tells NewsChannel 13 it's taking action to stop the spread.

Coxsackie causes mild, flu-like symptoms, which usually begin with a fever.

Buildings and equipment have been disinfected after confirmed cases at the middle and high school.

The school pep rally and homecoming game on Friday were cancelled. A powderpuff game between junior and senior girls was planned under the lights instead.

The homecoming dance was still planned to go on.
