Patients who took curcumin tablets for 18 months scored higher on memory tests and had fewer brain plaques than those who took a placebo.

The curcumin group also reported small improvements in mood.
Experts believe curcumin may reduce brain inflammation, which has been linked to Alzheimer's disease and depression.
