The holiday season isn't the only season underway. It's also flu season.
If you missed your fall flu vaccine, don't worry. There is still time to get yourself protected.
The recommendation is to get the shot in October or November. Since we haven't had a large outbreak of influenza yet, there is still time.
The flu vaccination is especially important for very young children over the age of 6 months, as well as pregnant women and adults over the age of 65.
Doctors want to remind us that with more people vaccinated there is less flu spreading around our communities.
"By having large numbers of people vaccinated in a population, you can develop what is called 'herd immunity,' meaning if you have large numbers who are protected from that illness, it is unlikely that that particular illness will the have ability to spread throughout the population," said Dr. Alan Taege of the Cleveland Clinic.
For people over the age of 65, there's a high dose flu vaccine that provides extra potency. However, it has been difficult to come by in some communities.
