Mary Bassett replaces Howard Zucker as New York state health commissioner

New York State has a new health commissioner.
Mary Bassett was appointed by Gov. Hochul to lead the department.
She has been the director of the FXB Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University. She also served as commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
Dr. Howard Zucker announced he was resigning back in September.
Zucker was criticized for his handling of nursing home deaths during the pandemic.
