Rolling up your sleeve and giving the gift of life is only half of what happens when you donate blood. First, there's some paperwork every donor needs to attend to and now, there's an app for that.

"Let's you know when you're eligible to donate. It has, for newer donors that don't know their blood type, it has their blood type in there -- tells you how many times you've donated," explained Steve Leary with the Red Cross of Northeastern New York. "It also has a donor card in there. People always forget their donor card,"

You can tackle the ream of necessary paperwork you have to fill out when you arrive to donate.

"You can also answer you're health history questions in there. You have to do that the day of the blood drive," noted Leary.

That's because the first thing you're asked on donation day is, do you feel well, today?

The app info doesn't stop with day of info. There's the post donation info you can get.

"You can see where your blood went the last time you donated. Mine went to a 2-year-old girl at St. Peter's Hospital. So it's nice to, kind of gives you more of a concrete than the abstract, where you have the abstract it's good to donate blood, this will let you know you're helping a little girl," said Leary.

"People will donate more frequently because it's easier. It saves time," noted Leary.

That's the key, because in the end, more lives are saved.
