Study: Cancer risk may be higher for people born with heart defects

People born with a heart defect may have a higher risk of developing cancer.

Swedish researchers studied data from more than 241,000 children and young adults. They found people with congenital heart disease were twice as likely to be diagnosed with cancer compared to those who were healthy.

Experts say people born with a heart defect may benefit from regular cancer screenings.
