Bail reform laws hurting bail bondsman industry

ALBANY - There's an entire industry affected by the changes to New York state's new bail reform laws - bail bondsmen.

The New York State Bail Bondsman Association is a trade group that includes 212 agents and 2,000+ employees. Many of them got pink slips.

Now that bail reform has kicked in, more and more criminal defendants have to be released on recognizance into the community.

It was a discretion once left up to the judge, and a reform a leader of the New York State Bail Bondsman Association tells NewsChannel 13 is not sustainable for his business.
