Capital Roots is a non-for-profit group distributing fresh produce across the Capital Region. However, it’s canceling its premier fundraising event amid a feud between the organization and a union.

Capital Roots CEO Amy Klein says the annual fundraiser “Autumn Evening” normally brings in $100,000, which helps fund the different programs the nonprofit offers.

Both sides say cancelling the fundraiser was the last thing they wanted. This would have been the 15th year for the event.

Capital Roots is a nonprofit that makes healthy food more accessible to communities in need. They provide nutritional education programs and community gardens all over the Capital Region.

Klein faults union organizers for the cancellation, but the union rep blames Klein for not taking the workers demands seriously.

The union says this wasn’t their intention. They just want a better work environment for employees.
