Cargill Meat Solutions has recalled 132,606 pounds of ground beef products as the result of possible E. coli contamination.
According to the Food Safety and Inspection Service division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the ground beef items were packaged on June 21, 2018 and have the establishment number "EST. 86R" inside the USDA inspection mark.
An investigation conducted by the FSIS and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed 17 illnesses and one death occurred between July 5 and July 25, possibly from contamination.
According to officials, people who contract this particular strain of E. coli O26 can become ill two to eight days after exposure. Most develop diarrhea and vomiting.
Those with questions can contact the FSIS virtual representative at askkaren.gov or by calling 1-888-674-6854.
