New York State has reached a record $174.2 million settlement with Charter/Spectrum. It comes after a lawsuit accusing them of not delivering on promised internet speeds -- and providing customers with inadequate equipment.
The settlement includes $62.5 million in direct refunds for 700,000 Spectrum customers. They will receive $75 to $150 each.
Another 2.2 million subscribers will get at least a few free months of things like streaming services or (if they don't have them already) premium channels like HBO or Showtime – a cost of over $100 million.
Charter will notify subscribers of their eligibility within 120 days of the settlement.
