GNC files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

The parent company of GNC has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The Pittsburgh-based health and wellness chain says the bankruptcy will result in the closure of at least 800 to 1,200 stores across the country.

GNC operates more than 5,000 retail locations in the United States.

GNC continues to serve consumers through its retail stores in many areas and is offering curbside pick-up at shopping plaza locations.

The company also continues to provide solutions for its customers online.
