Ozgul Ucan is doing something she had never witnessed in her Turkish community before -- she's running a retail business with her friend.

Initially, this stay at home mom was just looking for a job.

"My youngest one is going to pre-school," she explained. "I was thinking, what should I do? I should do something."

Her friend, Arzu Demircan, thought they should open a Turkish restaurant. That's when Ucan got a surprising suggestion from her husband. He suggested she open a leggings store.

Her idea of leggings were those black tights with the foot cut out. Who could make money from those? However, after months of research, she was opened up to a whole new world. She saw pictures of different types of leggings with different types of patterns.

"You must find a store. It's hard. Which one is better? Which location is better," explained Demircan.

Soon, they were both sold on the idea. In August 2017, Leggings World opened up and customers couldn't be happier.

The pair says they've learned a lot about customer service, marketing and buying, but they've also learned a lot about themselves and paved the way for other Turkish women.

In fact, the women say other women in the Turkish community see what they've done and they also want to go into retail business – so they are role models.

Leggings World has locations in Crossgates Mall and Viaport Rotterdam.
