Fast food giant McDonald's is venturing into the meatless burger war with limited testing of Beyond Meat burgers.

It will be available for 12 weeks in 28 restaurants in southwestern Ontario, Canada by the end of the month.

They are calling it the PLT, plant, lettuce, and tomato burger.

Meat alternatives are being introduced across the fast food sector.

Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods are battling to get their plant-based products into as many restaurants as possible.

McDonald's tests come about six months after rival Burger King began testing Impossible Burgers.
