The U.S. Department of Agriculture released its annual report on apple production in New York state.

Growers across the state produced 1.3 billion pounds of apples last year. That was down 4% from the previous year, probably because heavy rains last September hindered the harvest.

The value of the crop is estimated at $345 million, up 5% from 2021. The average wholesale price was about 26¢ per pound.
