Sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is Small Business Saturday.

The day was first introduced by American Express in 2010 to promote independently-owned stores and shops across the country.

Last year, nearly $18 billion was spent on Small Business Saturday.

The hope is for shoppers to patronize their stores throughout the year.
