Strawberry picking season underway in Capital Region

GREENWICH - Strawberry picking season is underway in the Capital Region.

The cool and wet spring delayed the crop by about 10 days. That's according to the owners of Hand Melon Farm in Greenwich.

They say the crop is buried and protected from the elements in the ground in the winter. They still have to wait for the soil to warm up for it to grow, and that's what has taken longer this year.

Many farms around the Capital Region opened up their “pick your own” season last weekend.
