GUILDERLAND - Holiday shopping is now in full swing. Several big box stores were already open for business on Thanksgiving. Others were gearing up for Black Friday madness.

Most stores in Crossgates Mall were scheduled to be open from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Thanksgiving – but many were open much earlier than that – including JCPenney and Best Buy.

Outside Best Buy, the first people said they were in line around 2:30 p.m. By 4:30 p.m., less than 100 people were in line. Temperatures were in the teens at the time.

The parking lot really started to fill up right before the doors opened. Some people NewsChannel 13 spoke with say shopping on Thanksgiving has become a tradition. Others say this is the first time.

Most stores in the Crossgates will reopen at 8 a.m. on Friday morning. However, some of the bigger stores have expanded hours late Thursday or early Friday. In fact, JCPenney will be open continuously through Friday evening.
