Saratoga County Fair opens for the season

BALLSTON SPA - From farm to fried, the 178th edition of the Saratoga County Fair is open now through Sunday. There are animal exhibits, rides, music, competitions, magic, and more.

Agriculture remains the main focus of the fair, according to Tammy Ballestero, president of the Saratoga County Fair.


"Our mission here remains to educate the public about the importance of agriculture. Everyone should take an interest in where their food is coming from."

New this year, children 12 and under enter free; active military will receive a 25 percent discount with a military ID, Wednesday is Senior Day with seniors 65 and over charged $5.

On Thursday, the fair will host "Think Differently Day." The day is designed for those with autism and special needs. There will be special discounting early in the day. The Midway will also open early and will be a quiet space for people who may have sensory issues.

The fair is expected to attract some 100,000 visitors with more than 850 exhibitors entering over 6,500 exhibits in competitive categories from antiques to vegetables as well as ongoing live musical entertainment, eight special show attractions and rides.

The Saratoga County Fair is presented by The Saratoga County Agricultural Society, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization. There are agricultural practices, home-based crafts, gardening, natural resources, animal care while the 4-H program showcases a wide range of projects from local youth who are learning about food and nutrition, conservation, robotics, horticulture and animal science. For equine enthusiasts there are horse shows, demonstrations, and competitions including the impressive Draft Horse Six-Horse Hitch Classic Series.
