Each year, hundreds of laws are passed in Albany that affect the entire state. Several laws going into effect in 2022 will affect you.

Minimum wage is going up to $13.20 an hour. That's a boost from $12.50. It's all part of the gradual increase to $15 an hour.

One of the biggest changes - the state has legalized marijuana sales.

Communities had until Friday night to opt in or out of allowing retail or consumption sites. Areas that don't make a decision will automatically be opted in.

Only places that opt in will get a cut of the tax revenue.

New York state is going foam free starting January 1.

A statewide ban on the use of Styrofoam containers and packaging material starts on New Year's Day.

Restaurants, hospitals, schools and retail stores will have to find alternatives to those cups, plates and clamshell containers.
