An out of control party involving 1,000 people ended with a trashed house in Columbia County. It happened over the weekend in Chatham.
Investigators say the venue where things got out of control was an Airbnb.
The minefield of garbage left behind after the Saturday night gathering suggests few of the people there had any regard for private property.
Not only were the grounds littered with empty and broken liquor bottles, not to mention plastic cups, the inside of the building also looked like it had been ransacked. There is overturned and broken furniture scattered about along with ripped up books and newspapers.
"There's a rumor out there that the people may have been from a certain college in the area," said Columbia County Sheriff David Bartlett. "We haven't really confirmed that yet."
Bartlett says there were no arrests, but the investigation is continuing.
Bartlett sys no criminal complaint has been filed yet. So from his perspective, no crime has been committed.
