An Albany Airport firefighter is fighting for his own life after an infection turned into sepsis. His wife Chelsea's social media posts about their love and their strength have gone viral.

Close friends like David Mazella say there is no one like him in the world like 33-year-old Josh Woodward.

"He's the kind of guy you can sit in a room with and be totally comfortable. You can also go out and he'll make you laugh. He's a lot of fun. He's an excellent friend and person," said Mazella.

Woodward is a father to two children ages five and three, a firefighter with the Albany Airport, and a volunteer firefighter in North Bethlehem.

On Wednesday night, Woodward told his family he thought he pulled a muscle in his arm.
The next day, the pain turned excruciating and he soon learned he needed emergency surgery.

"They took him in and found the infection had gotten into his heart, lungs, and kidneys. So he's been right now sedated," said Mazella.

While Woodward remains on life support, his wife Chelsea has been openly sharing their story on social media. Her posts have quickly gone viral, gaining the attention of thousands across the country.

"People are really rallying to him and Chelsea. They're such loving people because they show love. Now in turn people are returning the love," said Mazella.

His family says since Woodward was hospitalized, the waiting room nearby has been full. They say they've been surrounded by countless members of the community showing their love and support at all times of the day.

"The love and support coming back to them has been life-giving. This whole event has been a story of community. Josh's firefighter brothers have caught on and the church that Chelsea and Josh are a part of have caught on and they've began to share the story," said Mazella.
