Albany bishop may add interim duties in Buffalo

Bishop Edward Scharfenberger of the Albany Catholic Diocese may be assuming new responsibilities.

A reporter at the Vatican says Bishop Richard Malone from Buffalo will resign on Wednesday.

Reports out of Buffalo say Bishop Scharfenberger will serve as an interim until a permanent bishop is selected.

NewsChannel 13 reached out to the Albany Diocese and no one would comment.

Bishop Malone has been criticized for his handling of sex abuse claims against priests in Buffalo.
