Albany Common Council voting on new police chief

ALBANY - The Albany Common Council plans to vote Tuesday on the confirmation of Mayor Kathy Sheehan's appointment for Albany's new police chief.

Mayor Sheehan chose Eric Hawkins after a nationwide search to fill the position.

Hawkins comes from Southfield, Michigan. While he was chief there, crime numbers dropped by 45-percent.
