An Albany police officer caught on camera making racist remarks about the people he was hired to protect and serve will be terminated.

Officer David Haupt was working alongside an Albany sheriff's deputy when the deputy's body cam recorded the exchange.

Albany police are sharing that video.

The incident was recorded on November 1. It was right around 10 p.m.

It was brought to the attention of the higher ups two days ago after a clerk who was routinely monitoring the body cam footage saw that exchange and immediately sent it to the Albany DA's office as part of the new discovery laws.

Officer Haupt joined the department in 2016.

The name of the sheriff's deputy who was riding with him is not being released at this time, but multiple officials say it appears the deputy initiated a racially charged conversation, which led to those blatantly racist comments by Haupt.

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple told NewsChannel 13 Friday the deputy was being interviewed, but so far, no disciplinary action has taken place.

Meanwhile, Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said when she saw the video, she immediately called for the officer to be fired.
