"I think it's important, you've got to show people everyone is the same, we're just human beings" said Carrie Bourgeois, a parade attendee.

Community members and elected officials joined thousands of people lining the streets downtown for the annual Capital Pride Parade and Festival 2019. Those participating in the event gathered in Washington Park and down the parade route along Lark Street and Madison Avenue. Many of the people attending said it was uplifting and inspiring to participate in such an event.

"We need that more than ever right now, the way things are in the world. Just love, peace, diversity, that's what we need to have. The unity today is off the chain" said Natasha Homa, a NYSUT parade participant.

Some local business owners said area bars and restaurants were overflowing with excited customers since early morning, many of which said they were eager to show their support.

"Equality is the best thing, being together and being one is the best thing I think" said Bourgeois.

The colorful event included dozens of floats, live music, and plenty of dancing spilling out into the streets.
