Albany mayor appoints new fire chief

Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan announced who she will appoint as the Albany fire chief.

Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Gregory will be the new chief starting July 29. He has served on the Albany Fire Department for almost three decades.

Chief Warren Abriel Jr. announced he would retire earlier this month after serving the city for the last 46 years.

The Albany Common Council will have to confirm or reject the appointment within 45 days of being notified of the appointment.
