When they arrived, a man matching the description of the suspect took off on foot and police chased after him.

Shots were fired on Elk Street, hitting 19-year-old Ellazar Williams, of Binghamton. As of late Tuesday afternoon, he was at Albany Medical Center in critical, but stable condition.

Police aren't telling NewsChannel 13 which of the officers opened fire.

Investigators are hoping to view security camera video of the incident.

Authorities did find a large hunting knife at the scene.
